City Departments

Police Department

In December 2002, the Board of Aldermen approved Jake Reid III as Marionville’s Police Chief after voters, by a large margin, approved a sales tax that would help fund their own police department.

Prior to that time, the city had contracted with the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Department for police protection.  That contract usually provided one officer in town during weekdays, and an on-call status was in force at night and on weekends.  Times have changed, and the need for our own department was clear.

The current Police Chief is Mark Webb, who came to the department after retiring from the Springfield Police Department after 21 years of service.  Chief Webb has been leading the department since about May of 2009.  The Chief came on board as a Sergeant for fellow officer Ron Hutchison who was serving as Chief at the time.  With their collective experience, needed changes were made in the department, and citizens have been very quick to voice their appreciation.  Current officers with the Marionville Police Department are: Nick Frohmann, Brian Chism and Krissa Smith.  All of our officers and Chief have been very proactive in staying up to date with any available training and certifications.

Chief Webb has led the department to become more involved with the relational aspect of their duty.  It is not uncommon to see officers checking on the elderly and homebound during extreme weather, or just a friendly wave to citizens out and about in the community.  The City of Marionville is very appreciative of the strides made in its department due to the commitment of it’s Chief and officers.

Fire Department

At the Marionville Fire Department, we are committed to Protecting Property and Lives.  As we continue to strive for the acquisition of the latest in equipment and gear, a small town budget can sometimes make our goals challenging.  Fortunately, we have added a 2000 international Salisbury fire truck, and now have a 500gal tanker and brush truck to help our rural citizens. We participate in monthly training meetings to cover things such as gas leaks, structure fires, vehicle fires, bodily extrication, and medical training.  Responding to approximately 3 structure fires a year, the majority of our calls are medical.

Recently Marionville has completed an ISO inspection and are awaiting the results. This rating is what regulates a large portion of the cost of homeowner's insurance. As we improve our department, and the rating gets better, citizens and businesses of Marionville will feel the welcomed affects of the decrease in their insurance rates. We have worked hard to improve our equipment and personnel and expect to improve our ISO rating significantly. Please stay tuned – we will post the results when we get them.
